Meet The Team
Anne Bak Marine, Executive Director
Anne Bak Marine comes to the Schaap Center for the Performing Arts from Community Partner, Eisenhower Dance Detroit (EDD), where she has served as Executive Director since 2019. She received her BFA in Dance from Western Michigan University and spent more than ten years touring and performing with Eisenhower Dance Detroit. She has choreographed and taught master classes at many colleges and universities and served as adjunct faculty at Oakland University. She also served as founding director for the EDE Center for Dance (now known as the School of EDD), Artistic Director for the Center Dance Ensemble, and choreographer for the Archdiocese of Detroit’s “Art for God’s Sake.” In an administrative capacity, Anne served as Director of Operations for EDD from 1998-2006, Managing Director for the Rackham Symphony Choir, and project manager and lead curriculum designer for “Healthy Kids,” a collaborative residency project between EDD, Beaumont Hospital and the Pontiac School District funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan. She has developed a dance program funded by the Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Foundation in partnership with Detroit’s Durfee Elementary/Middle School and Life Remodeled to reinforce classroom curricular concepts through movement exploration, homework completion sessions, literacy skill building, and nutrition assistance. She has also served on the staff at the Detroit Skating Club since 1995 and as Coordinator for off-ice training at DSC from 2013-2020. There she worked with numerous Olympic, World Team, and international elite level figure skaters.
A long time University of Michigan fan, Anne has learned to wholeheartedly embrace Michigan State University now that both her daughter and son are Spartans. Amelia will graduate with her degree in software engineering this spring, and Alex is a sophomore in the Broad Business School majoring in supply chain management.
Anne looks forward to supporting the Schaap Center’s mission to bring the community together through shared artistic experiences. Building bridges and making connections between people through art remains a singular passion of hers.
