THE MANOOGIANS

Richard and Jane

The couple began collecting American art seriously in the 1970s after Richard became a trustee of the Detroit Institute of Arts. His business interests regularly took him to New York and other major cities where he would steal an hour or two away from meetings to visit museums and galleries, often making a special trip to see just a single work of art.

Richard and Jane have a deep love for the country and a particular appreciation for the period in which the country grew and expanded. This resulted in a passion for collecting nineteenth and early twentieth-century American art, especially works from the Hudson River School, Impressionism, Genre, Trompe L'Oeil, and the Ashcan School.

Over the five decades since the collection began, the couple have shared their full collection extensively throughout Japan, Europe, and the United States and lent individual works to small and large museums. It has been their shared passion and goal to enhance and expand the wonder of American Art to as many people as possible.
