What is the Schaap Center?

The A. Paul and Carol C. Schaap Center for the Performing Arts and the Richard and Jane Manoogian Art Gallery is an exceptional regional arts center in Grosse Pointe Park, MI. The Schaap Center houses a 435-seat performing arts theatre, the Richard and Jane Manoogian Art Gallery, and the Community Gallery. It is dedicated to high-quality performing and visual arts experiences and serves as an anchor in Jefferson's cultural corridor.

Is the Schaap Center new?

Yes. The Schaap Center is a brand-new, purpose-built facility that opened in May 2026 after roughly three years of construction. The more than $50 million project was made possible largely through philanthropy, including a gift of over $30 million from A. Paul and Carol C. Schaap. PLANNING YOUR VISIT

What are the Schaap Center's hours?

Hours vary by performance and exhibition. The Richard and Jane Manoogian Art Gallery and Community Gallery are open to the public free of charge two Saturdays per month, generally from 10 AM - 2 PM. Theatre hours depend on the performance schedule.

How early should I arrive for a performance?

Plan to arrive 30-60 minutes before the curtain so you have time to park, check in, visit concessions, view the galleries, and find your seat. Lobby doors typically open ahead of theater doors, and late seating may be held until a suitable break in the performance.

Is there parking at the Schaap Center?

Yes, parking is available. Patrons are encouraged to use onsite parking, municipal parking, and available on-street parking options. Click here for more parking information.

TICKETS

How do I buy tickets?

Tickets are available through the Schaap Center website and through the Program Partner presenting each performance. Buying directly from official channels is the only way to guarantee valid tickets. Click here for our Programs and ticketing information.

How much do tickets cost?

Ticket prices vary by performance and presenting company. The Schaap Center is committed to affordable, accessible pricing as part of its mission.

Can I get a refund or exchange my tickets?

Refund and exchange policies are set by each presenting company. As a general practice at performing arts venues, sales are final unless a performance is cancelled or rescheduled.

What if I lose my tickets?

If you misplace your tickets, contact the presenting company.

INSIDE THE VENUE

Is the Schaap Center accessible?

Yes. The Schaap Center was designed for accessibility, with wheelchair-accessible seating and companion seating in the theater and elevator access between levels. Assistive listening devices are available for performances in the theater. Ask patron services or an ambassador when you arrive. Trained service animals are welcome.

Are there concessions?

Yes. The Schaap Center offers concessions and a wine bar in its lobby and pre-function space, with an additional concession stand on the mezzanine level. Food and beverages are not permitted inside the theater itself. There is ample room in the first and second floor lobbies to enjoy a snack or drink before the show and at intermission. Is there a coat check?

Yes. Volunteer ambassadors assist with coat check at performances.

Can I take photos or video during a performance?

Photography and recording are generally not permitted during performances, in keeping with artists' agreements. Policies may vary by show. Please check with the presenting company.

Is there a dress code?

There is no formal dress code; guests are welcome to dress as they like, and many enjoy dressing up for an evening at the theater.

Can I visit the galleries for free?

Yes. The Richard and Jane Manoogian Art Gallery and the Community Gallery are open to the public at no cost two Saturdays per month, generally from 10 AM - 2 PM. Patrons are also welcome to view the galleries when attending a performance. Click here for the Manoogian Art Saturdays schedule.

Can I book a group or guided tour?

Yes. Groups can arrange tours on Mondays by appointment. Contact the Schaap Center at info@schaapcenter.org to schedule.

The Schaap Center is available for use for performances, exhibitions, and programming through program partners and special events to benefit the Schaap Center. The Schaap Center is not available as a general event rental venue for private parties or commercial events.
